The Neo Eccentric Theatre Company - A Brief History
The Neo Eccentric Theatre Company was formed in 2002 by Cowboy Smithx and the stroke of a magic wand (well sort of). Cowboy was working as radio station manager on his home nation of Piikani, AB, when his superiors asked him to perform a play based on the Blackfoot trickster Napi for visiting deligates from the WIPCE conference (World Indigenous Peoples Conference on Education). Cowboy took his skills as a radio producer and created a narrated pantomime version of the classic tale "Napi and the Rock." The story can be found on a plaque in front of the Okotoks Erratic (rock), which is located off Highway #7, 10 kilometres southwest of Okotoks, AB (the name of the town was derived from the Blackfoot word for rock, "okatok".)
Soon after the inaugural performance, Cowboy went back to his career in broadcasting. Thanks to good reviews and community support, several event organizers came calling for more shows. Soon after, the Neo Eccentric Theatre Company was born and has presented over 50 performances since.
The Theatre Company is currently under the umbrella of Neo Eccentric Entertainment, which also has its hand in athletics, expressive theory, performance training and film production. Professional actor John Rory Loftus joined Neo Eccentric in 2003 and has played a pivotal role in the success of the company. Other notable performers such as Stacy Da Silva, Aaron Bear Robe, Cherish Blood, Latisha Hewton-Backfat along with a plethora of young up and coming talent have also contributed to the company's success. Without the help of SNAG Records, Neo Eccentric wouldn't have the wonderful soundtracks that audiences have come to love. Oh yeah, we can't forget our dashing narrator Persey Klaw, who is also featured on the annual hip-hop compilation Rhymes from the 49.
Neo Eccentric Entertainment is continually striving to create new works based on "The Land of Loome - where all fairy tales exist" with a satirical blend of popular culture and melodramatic narratives by way of traditional storytelling, classical theatrical form and contemporary experimental practices.
Rise of the Imperial Klown Army - Episode 1: The Occupation of Iremanf
At this point in time all storylines are fully focused on the "Rise of the Imperial Klown Army," which will follow the central character known only as the "Killer Klown from Outer Space." Last Summer, Napi the trickster was sent on a mission into the heart of Mexico to gain new knowledge and skills. In his absence as the superhero/anti-hero, the Killer Klown is attempting to take over the Land of Loome one territory at a time. If he can't build his empire soon, he will fall to a stronger, wiser and smoother Napi. In the meantime new hero's must make attempts to quash the Klown regime. Go Bucked-off Moose Go!
